Shopping Centres and The Elite System
  Go BACK To Last Link

Shopping Centres are a common and core area of deployment for the Elite System. It is in use in shopping centres across Australia to track cleaning, security and maintenance staff.

The Elite System is typically implemented because of public liability issues. Shopping centre management and owners need information about the diligence of staff in maintaining the facility.

Immediate benefit comes from using the information to show shopping centre management if cleaning and security staff are meeting their contractual requirements. Daily reports can be easily generated on site.

Extracting value from reports without undue time and effort is made easier by the range and types of reports provided - we have a graphical report, a statistical report and a "line item" report that can be used together to quickly determine "what is going on".

Longer term benefit comes from being able to provide staff tracking and diligence information in the event of a public liability claim.

The Elite System was initially developed for the use by cleaners in shopping centres. The XL Memory Unloader, the specialized risk management report and the way job functions can be used to separate and focus on different areas of staff, were developed specifically to target the needs of shopping centres.

Additionally, Elite-ID Electronic Systems devote a considerable amount of their research and development time to developing new products and tailoring them to suit the use of the Elite System in shopping centres.

Applying The Elite System to Shopping Centres

The typical application of the Elite System is to;
  • Glue iButtons™ to strategic locations that are to be patrolled.

  • Typically, buttons are positioned in or at ...

    • Entrances, most often internally, so as to track patrolling cleaners. These are high slip and trip areas.

    • Toilets to track cleaning and security staff. Security staff patrol looking for drug problems, after hours intruders and cleaning staff to ensure quality of cleaning.

    • Malls, usually at the middle of a mall, to ensure that they are patrolled by cleaners.

    • Car parks, roof spaces, hidden "nooks and crannies", bus stops and other gathering places where security staff patrol.

    • Food courts often have just one button located at a central point. Its use is to show that a roster is being adhered to. Since food court staff are usually very busy, it can be difficult to obtain good results. New innovations in the Elite System are targeting this problem area.

    • In plant and equipment rooms, to track security staff who routinely patrol these areas as part of the risk management plan.

Overall, we recommend that the fewer buttons the better - but quite often this may be difficult when there are a large number of places that need to be patrolled.

In fact, button placement and quantity is a "fine art". You must weigh up the desire to monitor risk areas and measure quality of service, against the quantity of buttons and time required by staff to hit them.

  • Patrolling staff carry an XL Data Wand and touch it onto each iButton™ as they attend the location.

  • As required, the data is extracted out of the XL Data Wands and reports are generated.

  • The reports are used by internal staff to monitor their service delivery, and most commonly by the centres' operations manager to monitor work done as part of their risk management plan.
The end result of using the Elite System is an "electronic run sheet" that shows the attendances of staff at client sites.

Miscellaneous Items:

Public Liability insurance and risk management are such important topics that you must be sure that any systems you implement are providing the information you require, adding value and where possible reducing risk. Here are some "points" to consider.

Product Coverage is a term we use to describe how well the Elite System suits all the needs of a particular application. With the release of the new and unique Return Timer product, the Elite System provides the best possible solution to shopping centre needs. Variants on the Return Timer that are in development will improve this yet again.

Product Robustness is a critical factor. Staff in shopping centres are notoriously hard on their equipment - the frequency, cost and difficulty of repairs are important factors. Please ask existing users - repairs of Elite System equipment are extremely cheap and quick.

Longevity of your data and retaining its value to your organization are critical design features of the Elite System. The long term value of attendance verification "risk data" is hilighted by the not uncommon case for public liability claims to be raised against a shopping centre months or years after an event. The Elite System manages and saves its data in such a way that it promotes saving data for months, years and longer.

Enterprise Support is a term we use to describe how a system is suited for use by large and often geographically separated parts of an organization. For example, shopping centres are quite often owned by one organization, managed by another, with cleaning and security provided by contractors, and spread out across multiple cities across Australia. The Elite System suits this use by all parts of the enterprise through its data reticulation, management and storage design.

Integrity of the Elite System is such that what is reported is what actually happened. This is due to the secure nature of the iButton™, the design and in-built checks in the Elite System. This is an extremely important part of the Elite System - we go to every possible length to ensure that data is accurate and verifiable.

Simplicity of operation of the Elite System is a key and critical design philosophy. Your service provider staff must be able to perform their duties without undue "intrusion" by a monitoring system and not be required to become information technology experts. The Elite System has been designed to be as easy as possible to use. Please also see the section on
 Making It Easier .

Diagnostics built into the Elite System provide a level of data security as well as a check on the integrity. Software is provided that allows users to keep a check on the performance of their equipment.
